Acrylic on Canvas 150 × 90cm

The Trough Committee captures a familiar rural moment — cattle gathered around precious water — but beneath the humour lies a reflection on the emotional landscape of remote Australia. In harsh environments, water becomes more than a resource; it shapes behaviour, routine, tension and community.

The animals begin to take on human-like personalities, echoing the social dynamics, politics and quiet negotiations that are part of life in the bush. Through colour, character and storytelling, the work looks at how the land influences identity and temperament, becoming almost a character itself.

While playful on the surface, the piece speaks to endurance, connection and the shared experience of living with — and adapting to — the Australian landscape.
